ABSTRACTS

When painting an abstract, I start with a color scheme and rough composition. But painting is a process. I constantly evaluate whether it is working and what needs to be changed, enhanced or even eliminated. I call paintings like Ship Shadows and Stable door abstracted realism as I take a small piece of reality to its abstract limits. The watercolor abstracts are more of a dance with the paint. As the paint flows, it seems to tell me what it wants me to do next.
